South Korea has garnered much attention through its K-pop industry. They gather some incredibly talented members together and form groups. These idols can sing, dance, and perform so harmoniously and beautifully. Looking at these beautiful souls performing together definitely makes my heart flutter. Here are 7 fascinating facts about the K-pop phenomenon.
1. Unique Fandom Name
The fan community of the Korean idol groups is insane. The fans of a certain group form a fan club and decide the name of their community together with the idols. Each idol group has its fan community and a unique name.

For instance, those whose biases are BTS are called ARMY. Those who adore the Blackpink girl group are called Blink. Once are fans of the Twice group, Stays are fans of Stray Kids, Exol for EXO, and Carat for the Seventeen idol group.
2. Shining Bright with Light Sticks
K-pop artists hold many concerts both inside and outside of South Korea. Many fans attend these concerts. The artists designed a light stick for their fans to wave these lights together during the concert. Each idol group has its customized fan stick. In the past, they used different-colored balloons. However, this has changed into these beautiful lights in the new generation.

3. Chanting Together in Harmony
The idol members even prepare lines to be chanted by their fans. So during concerts, the fans chant these lines together. It becomes magical when the artists are performing, and the fans are chanting along. It feels like the artists and fans become one, performing together. Fans also chant together during music shows with their idols. Generally, the members teach these chants to the fans. Here is one of the hardest fan chants given by Seventeen.
4. Heartfelt Fan Service
The K-pop industry is well-known for its amazing fan service. As the fans always support the members, the members feel very indebted to their fans and always express their gratitude. Many artists genuinely love their fans and shower them with affection. They hold meet-and-greet sessions where fans can interact closely, such as interlocking hands or receiving autographs.

Artists also accept cute requests from fans, like doing aegyo (making cute poses), signing fake marriage certificates, or wearing flower ornaments like headbands and bracelets. They even organize global meetings and video conference sessions. Even if you are not in Korea, you can interact with your bias through video calls. They also have apps like Weverse and Bubble, where artists share snippets of their personal lives with fans.

5. A Global Melting Pot
Many K-pop groups have foreign members. In the past, most of them were from China, Japan, and Thailand. For instance, Jackson of GOT7 is from China, Bambam of GOT7 is from Thailand, Sana of Twice is from Japan, and Lisa of Blackpink is from Thailand. However, nowadays, there are members from America, Australia, New Zealand, and even India. Rose of Blackpink is from Australia, Joshua of Seventeen is from L.A., and Felix of Stray Kids is from Australia.

There is even a group under the JYP label whose members are from the U.S.A. Blackswan is another girl idol group whose members are from all over the world.

6. Vibrant Hair
In every K-pop group, you’ll find at least one member dyeing their hair for each album. It’s very common for idols to dye their hair in different colors like blue, red, or brown.

My favorites are Felix’s bleached hair dye and Joshua’s blue one. The members tend to dye their hair for their new album releases. Though the colors are very random, they manage to look handsome.
7. Breaking Gender Norms
Many idol members go for a unisex look. As a result, numerous members get mistaken for being men or women. For instance, G-Dragon from Big Bang, Taemin from Shinee, and Felix from Stray Kids tend to present themselves in unisex attire, sometimes making them look feminine.

On the other hand, Amber from F(x) and Jeongyeon from Twice have a tomboy vibe.
